Join us for our biggest event of the year! The 2018 gala promises to be amazing. Veteran film star, masterful storyteller, and domestic violence survivor Victor Rivas Rivers is our guest presenter and you won't want to miss hearing what he has to say.

Victor's astounding story of survival is chronicled in his memoir, "A Private Family Matter." He credits caring and compassionate teachers, foster parents, and other members of his "village" for helping him make the journey from gang member to anti-violence activist.

"I would listen to Victor's story over and over again. It is a story of the spirit, resilience, and goodness of a young man overcoming the violence in his home...I find his story compelling and uplifting, and it leaves me with immense respect for this man." ~Paul Wellstone, U.S. Senator

ii 15fcaf7faa635aecAs one of the few male voices speaking out against domestic violence, Rivers seeks to get more men and fathers involved in violence prevention. "I see men and boys trying to outdo each other to see who's more manly," he said. "But I believe a man is one who joins in the movement to end violence against women and children, who confronts those who commit the violence, who sets an example for boys and younger men, and who stands up to protect and respect women. That is a man.”

"Victor is amazing! He is the coolest, most down-to-earth guy with an incredible story. Our community LOVED him. Everyone should have the opportunity to hear him" ~YWCA of Yakima

Male leadership is needed to find solutions that prevent and end domestic abuse. We want to recognize Joe Gibbons (owner of Carpets Plus--the Headline Sponsor), for his leadership through financial support. His sponsorship is made in loving memory of Kristy Manzanares, a much beloved local, and former employee and personal friend of Mr. Gibbons, who was killed by her husband while on a family vacation last July. "In honor of Kristy, we wanted to lead this fundraising effort and hope it inspires others to step up and donate as well."

The evening will begin with a social hour and silent auction, followed by a lovely sit-down dinner and Mr. Rivers' presentation. We hope you'll join us for this fantastic experience! Purchase your tickets while they last!
