We are facing uncertain times as the federal government shutdown continues with no immediate end in sight. DOVE Center is calling on the community to stand with survivors to help ensure that the critical services on which they rely will continue without interruption.
The Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) and Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) are set to close at 6 a.m. on Friday, January 18th. This will be devastating for survivors and victim service agencies like DOVE as access to funding for critical needs and life-saving services will be cut off. Survivors will face greater risks for homelessness and harm; and DOVE will face a resulting funding gap.
The shutdown will directly impact victim advocacy in the emergency room and courts; support groups and counseling; and access to trauma-informed training for advocates on the front line. It will interrupt our ability to provide housing support to some of the most vulnerable survivors. And because DOVE utilizes a broad network of partners to deliver these programs, the shutdown has the potential of far-reaching implications throughout our network.
As we anxiously wait for the government to reopen, we are asking you, dear friends and loyal supporters of DOVE, to help ensure there is no funding gap and local survivors receive timely assistance that is fundamental to their safety and healing.
As you consider ways to make a difference in our community for those impacted by the shutdown, please consider a gift to DOVE. Your support means life-saving services remain accessible and reliable. Even in this time of uncertainty. Please give today.
In gratitude,
Lindsey Boyer
